The short version: wear them. These are made to be left on, and the most common way to damage jewellery is to keep taking it on and off.
Day to day
- Shower, swim, sleep and exercise in them — PVD gold over stainless steel handles all of it
- Put jewellery on after perfume, hairspray and sun cream, not before. It is the alcohol in them that dulls a finish, not water
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth when they look tired. That is usually all they need
If they need more than a wipe
Warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid, a soft toothbrush around the stones. Rinse, then dry completely with a cloth before putting them away. Two minutes, and they look new.
What to avoid
- Silver polish, jewellery dips and anything abrasive — they are made for solid metal and will scratch a plated surface
- Bleach and strong household cleaners
- Leaving them wet in a closed pouch
Storing them
Every order arrives in a velvet pouch, and that is the right place for them — it stops pieces rubbing against each other in a drawer. Dry first, then put them away.
Hinged huggies
The hinge is the one moving part. Close it until you feel it click, and open it by the same hinge rather than pulling the hoop apart. Treated that way it will outlast the plating.
